Travis Etienne suffered a serious Lisfranc injury during the Jacksonville Jaguars' preseason game against the New Orleans Saints that will knock the rookie running back out for several months and potentially the whole season, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL NetworkRapoport says the recovery timetable is 12 weeks at minimum. If he recovers well after that, and likely also if Jacksonville is still in playoff contention, Etienne could return to the field.

Etienne was rumored to be the second choice of first-year Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer (he wanted Kadarius Toney before the Giants drafted him), but that doesn't mean he was going to be an afterthought for Fantasy Football in 2021. Etienne joins a Jaguars offense that will also bring in his college quarterback Trevor Lawrence, so there should be familiarity. Although his 2021 rookie season is now likely over, he still has Dynasty appeal.

2021 Outlook

Etienne is likely to miss most or all of the 2021 season. Depending on how fast his recovery goes and whether or not the Jaguars are in playoff contention, he might be available for the stretch run of your Fantasy Football seasons but we can't count on that now.

If you want to dive a little bit deeper into Etienne's profile and his Fantasy value beyond the 2021 season for Dynasty and keeper leagues, SportsLine's Jacob Gibbs has you covered here

Also, earlier this offseason, Dave Richard broke down game film on Etienne from college and provided a complete in-depth scouting report with pros and cons. You can find that here.

Here is an excerpt from Dave's Dynasty outlook:

Dynasty outlook

Fast and lean running backs like Etienne don't always pan out. Sometimes they take on too many injuries and fade (Cadillac WilliamsDavid Wilson), sometimes they become studs for a few seasons (Jamaal Charles, C.J. Spiller), and sometimes they turn into superstars (Alvin Kamara). Etienne's ability to stay healthy through four years at Clemson is a good sign, but it's possible the Jaguars will limit his exposure to try to keep him healthy. Robinson gives them that luxury. However, if and when Etienne emerges as the Jaguars lead back, he should be a must-start Fantasy back.
